Playing any sport has its own benefits and risks, even a sport as simple as badminton. All age groups enjoy the sport but not many are aware of the pros and cons. Let us walk you through them.

    Benefits

    • Strength: Badminton requires full-body strength and utilizes all muscles. It involves varying speeds of movement, boosting your core and arm strength and leg muscles. This also helps in losing weight.
    • Cardiovascular system: Your blood flow improves the more you play, and the sport also reduces your chances of having a heart attack or stroke.
    • Mental health: Mental health is as important as physical health. Playing badminton for a few hours a day releases endorphins which help reduce stress and make you feel happy.
    • Metabolism: The more you sweat, the more calories you burn and the more toxins your body ejects. Increased metabolism results in keeping fit and in shape

    Hazards

You can injure yourself in any sport, whether it is accidental or due to a poor physique.

    • Knees: Jumping and landing motion while playing badminton hurts the knees most.
    • Shoulders: Badminton utilizes your upper body strength which is why players may experience pain in the shoulder joints.
    • Ankles: These are very common as the sport requires constant movement, it is easy to twist or even break your ankle.

It is vital to warm up and cool down properly to ensure you get the most out of playing the sport you enjoy the most.
